Travelers in and out of Canada now can enjoy an authentic taste of the Caribbean. Tortuga Caribbean Rum Cakes have been added to shelves in duty free shops on both sides of the Canadian border.

“This is an excellent start to introduce Tortuga rum cakes to the Canadian market,” says Monique Hamaty-Simmonds, Chief Marketing Officer for Tortuga, whose family started the business in 1984. “We consider Canada a key growth area for our Caribbean gourmet products.”

The Tortuga products were introduced into Canadian duty free shops by the company’s international distributor, Horizon International Duty Free. The Tortuga brand is well-known by the more than 20 million annual Caribbean tourists and cruise ship passengers. Tortuga Caribbean Rum Cakes are the number one export of the Cayman Islands and named the 2012 “Best Cruise Souvenir” by Porthole Cruise Magazine for the eighth consecutive year.

Made from a generations old family secret recipe, Tortuga rum cakes are baked in the Caribbean with the finest ingredients and a special oak-barrel aged Tortuga gold rum. Each cake is hand glazed and vacuum sealed to lock in the delicious freshness. They are available in three sizes—33oz, 16oz and 4oz—and 9 tropical flavors.

The Tortuga product line includes rum flavored coffees, savory Caribbean sauces, chocolate rum turtles with sea salt, rum fudge and more. The products are sold in gift and specialty food departments and gourmet stores throughout the Caribbean and North America and in the onboard gift shops of nearly 100 cruise ships.
