Sky Duty Free wins Foz do Iguaçu Airport tender

By Jas Ryat

On the heels of opening its first duty free land border store in Foz do Iguacú, Brazil, Sky Duty Free announced winning its first ever airport duty free contract with the Foz do Iguaçu airport in Brazil.

Sky Duty Free Director Alex Beridze stated that the tender includes both departures and arrivals stores, and is exclusive to Sky Duty Free. The team made the announcement to the duty free industry Monday May 11th.

Brand suppliers have “replied with positivity,” said Beridze.

“If everything goes well, we hope to be open in three to four months, as we are expecting 80-90% of flights to return by September 2020,” he added. While Foz do Iguaçu is an international airport, Brazil’s air passengers overwhelmingly consist of domestic travelers.

Beridze is optimistic that business will continue to grow as long as customers are flying in to the airport. He says the “strong” Sky Duty Free team will continue to announce new openings in upcoming months.
