Nadda Buranasiri, AirAsia X Thailand’s CEO has been appointed as the new AirAsia X Group CEO

Low-cost, long-haul carrier AirAsia X Berhad has appointed AirAsia X Thailand CEO Nadda Buranasiri as AirAsia X Group CEO, on Thursday (1 November). His appointment is effective immediately.

The airline has also re-designated Co-Group CEO Datuk Kamarudin Meranun and Co-Group CEO Tan Sri Tony Fernandes as Non-Executive Directors. Both Datuk Kamarudin and Tan Sri Fernandes will continue to oversee the businesses’ strategic direction and its operations as AirAsia X Berhad’s directors. AirAsia X Berhad, also known as AirAsia X, serves 29 destinations across Asia, Australia, the Middle East and the United States.

Tan Sri Fernandes stated in a press release that the changes in appointment are important as AirAsia continues its business transformation to take long-haul, value air travel to new heights.

Commenting on Buranasiri’s appointment, Tan Sri Fernandes said: “He joined the aviation industry in January 2014 as CEO of AirAsia X Thailand and has been instrumental in not only setting up our Bangkok-based long-haul operations, but also making it one of the most successful and popular long-haul airlines in Asia.”

“This is a great example of our internal talent development and succession planning for our key leadership roles.”

Prior to joining AirAsia, Buranasiri, 56, has worked in a wide range of industries, including senior roles in sales, advertising, banking and the music industry. He started his career as a Sales Executive for Siam Cement before becoming the Product Manager at Asia Porcelain Industry and then, the Market Executive for American Express. Thereafter, Buranasiri joined advertising agency J Walter Thomson (JWT) as Account Group Director and eventually became the Managing Director of Universal Music (Thailand) Co Ltd.
