Changi traffic increases by 6.3%
Double-digit growth in passenger air travel between Singapore and China, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Japan, Malaysia and Vietnam helped spur 6.3% growth for Changi Airport overall in January 2014 over January 2013.
Changi Airport also experienced growth in passenger travel to and from Southeast Asia, Northeast Asia, Southwest Pacific and the Middle East. Travel to and from Thailand decreased, however.
Takeoffs and landings increased 7.6% over the same period last year, with a total of 30,400 landings and takeoffs. Airfreight also increased. 151,400 tons of cargo were processed at Changi Airport, a 3.8% increase year-on-year. Air shipments pick up this time of year because of the Lunar New Year, which this year was 10 days earlier in the calendar year than in 2013.
