WiTR goes virtual to support ImpactHK charity

By Laura Shirk

Taking place on October 15 at the Virtual Travel Retail Expo, Women in Travel Retail (WiTR) will host its annual fundraiser in aid of ImpactHK, which supports the homeless living in Hong Kong

With TFWA World Exhibition’s forced cancellation this year due to COVID-19, Women in Travel Retail (WiTR) will host its annual fundraiser at the Virtual Travel Retail Expo, which kicks off next week on October 12.

Taking place on October 15, this year’s event is in aid of 2020/21 nominated charity ImpactHK, which supports the homeless in Hong Kong where those on the streets, as in many other cities, are particularly vulnerable and susceptible to abuse and attack.

WiTR members and non-members can join what promises to be a fun event from anywhere in the world via a Zoom link below at: 0700 USA/Canada East Coast, 1200 noon UK BST, 1300 Central European Time, 1600 Middle East, 1900 Asia.

This year’s event will take the form of a virtual get-together and quiz set by renowned quizmaster, Gerry Munday. This session will open with an introduction by Jeff Rotmeyer, Founder of ImactHK, who will tell the moving story of how the charity started with initial acts of kindness. After Jeff’s introduction and an open catch-up session, WiTR will run a quiz enabling participants to win one of three fabulous prizes: a stunning, beautifully crafted handbag by Coccinelle for the overall winner, along with Amazon vouchers donated by WiTR, as second (£100) and third (£50) prizes.

“This usual event at TFWA World Exhibition has always given WiTR a wonderful opportunity to raise funds for our annual charity and without that this year, the money raised is inevitably very limited. For this reason, we have agreed that ImpactHK will continue as the WiTR nominated charity for 2021,” says Sarah Branquinho, Chair of WiTR.

There is no charge to join the event, but WiTR asks that those who are able to do so make a voluntary donation of minimum 10 Euros, 10 GBP or 10$US via the WiTR website. “All funds will go directly to ImpactHK and will be added to the donation very kindly promised by FILTR, who is generously donating 5% of its income as a partner in the Virtual Travel Retail Expo to Impact HK,” adds Gerry Munday, Vice-Chair of WiTR.
