Mumbai Duty Free unveils Hamleys toy store

By Jas Ryat

Mumbai Duty Free completes the new year by opening Hamleys - a business venture that appeals to a younger generation and offers newer categories

Mumbai Duty Free wraps up the year by capturing a whole new segment of customers with the opening of Hamleys, at the departure terminal of Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport, T2 in Mumbai.

This leading global toy store is present at three different locations at the departure terminal of Mumbai International airport, thus enabling purchases through every step of a potential customer’s travel journey.

A number of customer surveys conducted over the years, clearly indicated the exponentially growing demand for a store that catered to the shopping needs of not only children, but parents as well. Mumbai Duty Free using its internal research program, ‘i-say: consumer conversations with MDF’, recorded and analysed customer’s expectations and thereby responded by launching the Hamleys store.

The Hamleys store at Mumbai duty free offers a curated line of toys such as board games, plush toys, art and craft kits and many more. Some of the top selling toys have been construction toys, pre –school /early learning toys, science kits and board games. In addition to this, musical instruments and plush toys also tend to do quite well. While the store is a perfect pit stop for our junior traveller; it’s a delight for a departing traveller to pick up last minute gifts for visiting guests.

Hamleys has been a great stepping stone for Mumbai Duty Free towards opening up the travel retail business to newer categories as well as an opportunity to resonate with an entirely different and younger customer base. The launch being in sync with the festive season facilitates in adding value to the overall duty free shopping experience, which is what Mumbai Duty Free strives for.
