Aelia Duty Free is one of the concepts awarded to Lagardère Travel Retail as part of an 8-year mini-master concession at the Christchurch International Airport

Lagardère Travel Retail has been awarded a Mini Master Concession at Christchurch International Airport, New Zealand.

This new 8-year concession includes 6 concepts – Aelia Duty Free in the arrivals and departures, news and travel essentials brand RELAY, confectionery store So Chocolate, destination store TikiTour, a Natural Fibre clothing store, as well as a flagship Bar & Café in departures.

The new concession covers 1928 sqm of retail space and 544sqm in arrivals. It will double Lagardère’s existing international retail space and showcase the best of the South Island of New Zealand.

With the award of the new concession, Lagardère Travel Retail will transition the Duty Free offer from JR Duty Free to Aelia Duty Free at the end of November 2018, in time for the busy peak season. The second phase of the project starts in March 2019 where there will be a staggered delivery of all the new concepts by the end of November 2019.

Noting that they have enjoyed a strong and partnership with Christchurch airport since 2011, Przemyslaw Lesniak, CEO of Lagardère Travel Retail in Pacific says: “The alignment of the process between our vision for an innovative and unique retail experience, enhanced by the airport’s innovation and ‘out of the box’ thinking will ensure a memorable experience for the travellers in the gateway to the South Island of New Zealand.

In a press release, Justin Watson, the airport's Chief Aeronautical and Commercial Officer, says: “We are very excited about the changes that are coming and are pleased to have such a significant global retailer aligned to deliver the aspirations for the airport. Together we are planning new experiential and digital developments to showcase the South Island to our visitors.”
