China Duty Free Group (CDFG) has opened downtown duty-free stores in Qingdao and Xiamen on May 1, China’s May Day holiday.

Describing the two locations as important coastal cities which are scenic tourist attractions and international hubs, CDFG said that both locations have rich resources and a well-developed tourism industry. Thus, the new downtown stores function as an extension of the company’s duty-free business. It will also give foreign tourists more time for shopping in a comfortable environment.

CDFG said that the Qingdao store, which is located in a shopping mall within the central business district, will be developed in phases. During the first phase, there will be a 355 square meter operating space. The Xiamen store will have an operating space of 331 square meters during its first phase. Both stores will sell items such as fragrance, cosmetics, sunglasses, watches and more.

Major brands such as Estée Lauder, Lancôme, Shiseido and other international brands will also be available at the stores to give customers more selection. The stores also offer an airport pick-up service for purchases made in-stores. During the shops’ opening period, there will be a series of joint promotional events with the malls where the shops are located.

“In the future, CDFG will utilize its procurement, management, resource and membership advantages and continue leveraging on the booming travel industry, in order to retain its competitiveness internationally,” the company said.
