Lotte Duty Free goes green with biodegradable paper shopping bags

By Elena Owyong

Lotte Duty Free claims to be the first in the industry to introduce biodegradable paper shopping bags to replace small plastic bags, in a bid to be more environmentally friendly

Lotte Duty Free is creating an eco-friendly environment by introducing biodegradable material in its packaging and paper shopping bags. These paper bags will be used to replace smaller plastic bags. The retailer claims to be the first in the South Korean industry to do that.

The biodegradable vinyl, which has been introduced at Lotte Duty Free's Incheon Integrated Logistics Center and Incheon International Airport branch since July 10, is certified by the Korea Institute of Environmental Industry and Technology as a product that naturally breaks down more than 80 percent within 180 days of land reclamation. Lotte Duty Free plans to expand its use to all local retail outlets and logistics centers by April this year.

"Lotte Duty Free has been making various efforts to solve the waste vinyl problem," said Lee Kap, the CEO of Lotte Duty Free.

"Lotte Duty Free will continue to expand its eco-friendly policies to maximize recycling of resources and take the lead in creating an eco-friendly environment for the retail industry."
