Colombia airport traffic up 11.2% in December 2021 vs 2019

By Wendy Morley

ASUR, which is a leading international airport operator with a portfolio of concessions to operate, maintain and develop 16 airports in Mexico, Colombia, and the capital of Puerto Rico, San Juan announces increases in passenger traffic of 5.1% in Mexico and 11.2% in Colombia, with a decrease of 1.7% in Puerto Rico, compared to pre-pandemic levels in December 2019. Traffic in these three countries totaled 5.5 million passengers, which is 5.2% above total traffic reported in December 2019 for the same countries.

ASUR states that these positive numbers reflect the continued overall recovery in global travel demand, the ongoing rollout of Covid-19 vaccination campaigns in the U.S., and gradual vaccination progress in Mexico, though this recovery is admittedly partially offset by government travel restrictions and requirements in certain countries.
