Beans Boughton becomes Le Clos’ & UAE’s first resident Master of Wine

By Hibah Noor

With only 409 Masters of Wine (MW) in the world, Beans Boughton, MMI & Le Clos Fine Wine Category Manager, has become the UAE’s first. This is the highest and most distinguished wine qualification in the world. Within the Middle East and Africa, there are only a handful of people with this distinction, which is recognized worldwide for its rigorous high standards and notoriously difficult set of examinations.

Le Clos already holds a reputation as one of the world’s leading fine wine retailers, which this accolade further enhances. MWs are equipped with a unique range of practical and theoretical knowledge that enables them to work across all disciplines within the wine industry, from winemakers, oenologists and viticulturists through to shippers, retailers and writers, and Le Clos customers now gain special access to this in-depth knowledge and expertise.

In 2017 after an already distinguished wine career in the UK, Boughton joined MMI as Fine Wine Category Manager, responsible for managing 50 percent of Le Clos’ fine wine portfolio including Burgundy, Rhône, and Italy. His role also involves fine wine category management across travel retail, airlines, Dubai on-trade and retail, and MMI’s international markets.
