As reported by BBC News, the US state department is to advise Americans to avoid 80% of countries worldwide as a result of the spread of COVID-19.
In a note to the media about its updated travel guidance, it says that the pandemic continues to “pose unprecedented risks to travelers.” The current US "Do Not Travel" advisory covers 34 out of 200 countries. At this time, New Zealand is one of only three places in the world free for US travel advisories.
The US state department says that its decision to update its travel advisories is based on the goal to become more in line with those of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and “does not imply a re-assessment of the current health situation in a given country.”
According to BBC News, the CDC currently recommends tha tall Americans refrain from domestic travel until they have been fully vaccinated.
