All aboard Dubai Duty Free’s inaugural sailing regatta
Dubai Duty Free is taking to the high seas with its new sponsorship of the Dubai Duty Free Sailing League Regatta to be held at Dubai Offshore Sailing Club (DOSC) from December 1-4, to coincide with UAE National Day.
Commenting on the retailer’s latest sports sponsorship, Dubai Duty Free Executive Vice Chairman & CEO Colm McLoughlin said: “We are delighted to be onboard as the title sponsor of the Dubai Duty Free Sailing League Regatta. Water sports has a very strong following in the region and the UAE sailing scene is very active with the DOSC at its core. We are looking forward to this event and I am confident that it will be a success.”
Hosted by DOSC, the event will follow a Sailing League format with a series of short 15-20 minute races. A total of 24 teams, which includes 12 local and 12 internationals, will compete on SB20 keelboats in a tournament spread across four days and culminating in a four-boat final on December 4 to determine the winners.
Dubai Offshore Sailing Club Commodore Simon Reeves added: “We are proud to have the support of Dubai Duty Free as the title sponsor of this inaugural event, which is designed to showcase the fantastic sailing conditions that the UAE has to offer. I am sure that Dubai Duty Free will bring a lot of prestige to the event and its support will provide a world-class experience for all the participants.”
The inaugural event will set the standard as the DOSC is set to bid to host the SB20 World Championships in 2024.
