Andrew Day, Group CEO of Emirates Leisure Retail and MMI, has joined the Keepers of the Quaich whisky society

Renowned international whisky society Keepers of the Quaich has formally inducted Andrew Day, Group CEO of Emirates Leisure Retail (ELR) and Maritime and Mercantile International (MMI), as a new Keeper at the 63rd annual ceremony.

The event was held at Blair Castle in Blair Atholl, the historic home of the Earls and Dukes of Atholl, on 4 April 2022, at a ceremony hosted by Ian Smith, Chairman of the Society.

The Keepers of the Quaich is an exclusive and international society that recognizes those that have shown outstanding commitment to the Scotch whisky industry, inducting a limited number of new Keepers annually. The 2022 inductees joined a select group of 2,800 recipients, coming from over 100 countries.

“Being invited to join the Keepers of the Quaich is a tremendous honor,” said Day. “The society represents the most important expression of the Scotch whisky industry and I look forward to continuing to promote and preserve the great legacy that it has to celebrate. My goal has been to challenge the team to bring enthusiasts and collectors alike great expressions of unique whiskies.

“Over the last two decades, our partnership with The Macallan has been the best example of this, from launching the Macallan Boutique in 2019, bringing great whiskies to the region and celebrating world record sales of The Macallan 1926.”

Mike Glen, Managing Director, UAE & Oman, MMI, added: “Andrew’s induction is a cause for celebration, recognizing his fantastic contribution to the industry, particularly in the Middle East. Since he joined MMI in 2007, his leadership paved the way for some remarkable firsts for the industry, beginning with the launch of the award-winning fine wine and luxury spirits retailer Le Clos.

“Le Clos has built a reputation internationally for our extensive range of The Macallan, and other world-class whiskies, and during its operation, has been able to celebrate four record-breaking sales, US$2 million in orders in just 24 hours in the midst of the pandemic, and recorded sales of the holy grail of whisky – The Macallan 1926,” Glen added.

Since opening its first store in Dubai International Airport (DXB) in 2008, Le Clos has established a reputation for bringing to market some of the world’s rarest and most sought-after products, seeking to set the benchmark in fine wine and luxury spirits retailing.

Since its opening, it has expanded to 11 stores across DXB and in 2022 will be looking to begin distribution of Le Clos hand-selected whiskies.

Le Clos’ Click & Collect service at LeClos.net also gives customers access to the portfolio and the ability to purchase from home, the airport lounge or inflight.

Orders can be collected from the store on arrival or departure from DXB or hand-delivered to the gate as part of the luxury concierge service.
