It is with regret that we announce the passing of the Italian industrialist Augusto Reina, Chief Executive Officer of Illva Saronno Holding Spa.

“We are proud of our past yet we are equally aware we must look ahead, for our tomorrow entails both great opportunities and great responsibilities,” said the liquor company in a statement.

It described Reina as “an outstanding industrialist” and “a man in love with his work”.

Born in Saronno on June 11, 1940, Augusto Reina was a great innovator who transformed a family-run Italian company into an international business.

A man of versatile interests and tastes, he had a deep appreciation and enthusiasm for classical music, contemporary art, gliding and amateur soccer.

“The Reina family and the management team will carry forward the passion for this work, the innovative spirit, the sense of courage and optimism in face of the future which set Augusto Reina in a class all of his own,” said the firm.

All the plants and offices of the Illva Group are closed for mourning on February 23.

Illva Saronno is best known as the producer of Disaronno Amaretto and other fine Italian liquors.
