İstanbul New Airport nears completion
By the end of 2017, around 75% of İGA’s İstanbul New Airport (INA) will be complete. The airport is expected to be operational by October 28, 2018, after just a 42-month construction period. An average of 30,000 people have been working tirelessly to meet the deadline.
The runways, the airport tower and the terminal are all nearly finished. The baggage system has been successfully tested, as have many other systems. A lot of technical innovations will enhance the passenger experience, including self-service equipment with biometric features, beacon and geo-location technologies, and smart kiosks, enabling smooth check-in process.
İGA, constructor and operator of the İstanbul New Airport, was present at many important international events in 2017, presenting the biggest infrastructure project in the history of Turkey. At each event, İGA received appreciation for its pioneering project.
Cracking the door open for the aviation of the future, INA has already signed agreements in different fields from cargo to ground services and retail. Allocation contracts have been signed with six companies for Cargo City and Ground Services Campus adding up to approximately €250 million (US$297 million) in total.
INA is currently undertaking the Operational Readiness and Airport Transfer (ORAT) process. Six months before opening, the airport will carry out small-scale trials that will become more frequent in the three months prior to the opening.
