Eager participants and supporters attending this year’s Dubai Duty Free Bowling Tournament

Almost 1,100 employees participated in this year’s Dubai Duty Free Bowling Tournament finals as part of the operator’s Dubai Fitness Challenge initiative.

The tournament finals, held on November 5, were attended by its senior officials headed by Salah Tahlak, Executive Vice President – Corporate Services along with Bernard Creed, Senior Vice President – Finance, Sean Staunton, Senior Vice President – Retail Sales, Michael Schmidt, Senior Vice President – Retail Support, and Zayed Al Shebli, Vice President - Loss Prevention and Corporate Security.

Some 35 of the leading teams battled for the top honors on the final day. All the teams from the four shifts and general offices enjoyed the games immensely with new bowling records established, the retailer said.

Commenting on the event, Tahlak enthused: “The Sports and Social Committee at Dubai Duty Free, which organizes this event, has always been extremely active and it is great to see so many of our staff actively involved with the tournaments, whether as players or supporters.”

Shift A (Concourse C) Bhatong Buko team from Operations was declared the champion with 2,677 points for three games won over the Desert Hawk team of Finance with 2,639 points, while Merchandising Aces was within grabbing distance in the third place with 2,596 points.

Individual awards were also presented to each categories such as Striker of the Day, High Game Handicap, High Game Scratch, High Game Series, Top Five High Average and DDF Best Bowler for both male and female category.

The retail operation has two more corporate fitness activities planned for the Dubai Fitness Challenge, which includes a Dragon Boat race scheduled on November 9 at Dubai Creek & Yacht Club and a group Zumba class to be conducted by a licensed Zumba Fitness Trainer on November 17 at the Dubai Duty Free Tennis Stadium.
